Equipment Setup
Set up and check the spray equipment before you start: connect the spray pump or pressure pot, verify hoses and fittings are rated and leak-free, install the correct tip or nozzle for the coating, and confirm the pressures. Flush and prime the system so the first spray is clean and consistent.
Mixing and Thinning
Follow the product data sheet for multi-part coatings. Combine the components in the correct ratio, mix thoroughly by power mixer or by blading and stirring until uniform, and allow any induction or sweat-in time. Thin only with the approved solvent and only up to the amount the data sheet allows.
Application Techniques
Hold the spray gun perpendicular to the surface, about 8 to 12 inches away, and move at a steady speed. Overlap each pass by roughly 50 percent and trigger at the start and end of each stroke to keep the film even. Keep a wet edge and avoid arcing the gun, which leaves uneven coverage.
Measuring Wet Film Thickness (WFT)
Check WFT as you spray by pressing a wet film comb gauge into the fresh coating. Comparing the WFT reading to the target helps you predict the final dry film thickness and correct the coverage before the coating sets.
